Are you interested in finding out the tricks of designing a beautiful garden or in getting the most out of an allotment?

This 10 week course will cover all the basics from planning, identifying and selecting plants to best use of space. This is a classroom, theory-based course, taught by our experienced horticulture lecturers. Upon completion you could progress to our Level 2 Certificate in Horticulture where you will be able to put your knowledge into practice. Practical Horticulture - Level 2 College Certificate

This accredited course is designed for people with a real passion for gardening and growing plants. It will develop your existing skills, giving you a broad range of knowledge relating to the growth of plants and how they can benefit us.

You will also gain an understanding of plant science, enabling you to relate the biology of plants to horticultural techniques.

You will learn in our specialist Horticulture facilities and have access to expert staff and excellent resources. You will be assessed practically and by written coursework.

You will work outside, so will need suitable clothing and footwear.

There are no formal entry requirements but you must be able to communicate well both verbally and in writing.

Preparing Gardens for Winter/Spring

If you are a keen to develop your gardening skills? If you are, this 5 week course is perfect for you! You will learn how to prepare your garden for the winter/early spring so that you get the best from it.

Subjects will include: Lifting & dividing herbaceous perennials, planting bulbs for spring, sowing and planting hardy annuals, mulching and soil conditioning.

You will be taught by our experienced Horticulture staff in our specialist outdoor facilities.

You will need to come dressed for the weather and wear sturdy boots.
